AGA CEO Explains Rapid Pace of Gambling Recovery in USA and Asia
Bill Miller, President and CEO of the American Gaming Association (AGA), assessed the future of the gambling industry in Asia, citing the US as an example. In his opinion, players in both regions are thirsty for life experiences, which is why the gambling industry continues to grow at a rapid pace.
The AGA CEO compared the rates of gambling recovery in the US and Asian countries. He noted that after the end of the coronavirus pandemic, the American industry was able to reopen at a considerably faster pace than most Eastern jurisdictions. However, Miller added that he sees a similar momentum in Asia, and believes it is sustainable.
The AGA President noted that during COVID-19, people faced the problem of losing life experiences — something that was previously taken for granted. Therefore, now, after the pandemic, the population has a slightly different outlook on life, and experience has become more important than other things. That, according to Miller, has become one of the main catalysts for the recovery in the US, where people value experiences, be it casinos, restaurants or shows.
With venues shutdown and lifestyle restrictions in place, people’s expectations for more life experiences helped drive demand for gambling when it became available again. The gambling industry in the US, which has more than 1,000 land-based casinos, has seen a huge growth since COVID-19, Miller noted.
The CEO said that people had a slightly different attitude around experiences. He added that benefited their industry, whether in the US, Asia, or anywhere else.
