Mohegan Joins Soloviev Group’s Freedom Plaza Bid in NY
Mohegan, an extension of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut, has joined Soloviev Group’s bid as the casino partner of Freedom Plaza in New York. The companies have joined forces in light of the fact that Empire State is still accepting applications for three commercial gaming licenses.
Ray Pineault, Mohegan CEO and President, noted that Mohegan was known for the wide array of extraordinary experiences and exceptional service they provide their guests — but it was truly their culture, values, and commitment to their community that set them apart as an organization.
Pineault added that their rich Mohegan heritage provided the foundation for how they operated their business and guided their commitment to their employees, their approach to guest services, and their relationship with partners and the communities in which they operated and served. He also said they looked forward to infusing their “Spirit of Aquai”, their guiding philosophy, into New York State.
According to plans, Freedom Plaza will include the world’s first museum dedicated to the celebration of freedom and democracy, as well as a hotel with more than 1,000 rooms, an iconic Ferris Wheel, and two residential towers that can contribute to solving the housing shortage problem in the city.
Stefan Soloviev, Soloviev Group Chairman, noted that as a leader in socially responsible development, they would honor, complement and advance Mohegan’s principles through sustainable and carbon-neutral property development. The Chairman added that strategic partnership would not only ensure that Freedom Plaza would be ethically developed, but provide long-term economic prosperity for the local community, a positive impression on regional and international tourism, and a lasting impact on NYC for generations.
