Warhorse Lincoln to Become First Nebraska Casino Offering Sports Betting
Warhorse Casino Lincoln will start offering betting on a variety of sporting events on Thursday. This step makes the casino the first one in Nebraska where sports wagering is available.
Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk Inc., noted that they were thrilled to be the first casino in the state to offer sports betting. He added that Nebraskans had been asking for the opportunity to place bets on sports since the ballot initiatives were passed in 2020. Current regulations, which were approved by the Attorney General’s office last January, oblige players to place bets on the grounds of racetrack casinos. Betting on games played within the state is prohibited.
Warhorse Casino Lincoln is a temporary facility that was launched in September 2022. It will offer customers three options for sports wagering: using any of ten kiosks placed across the venue, at the sports book window, or through the WarHorse app. The latter makes the process of placing bets faster and easier.
To provide the sportsbook, Warhorse cooperated with Kambi Group. It also hired Jason Johnston, a former sports book manager at BetMGM, to keep operations under control.
While a permanent Warhorse Casino Lincoln is still under construction, the temporary facility may stay the only one to provide sports betting. The permanent casino is expected to start operating in September this year.
Nebraskan greenlighted gaming expansion in November 2020. All six licensed horse tracks, located in Lincoln, Grand Island, South Sioux City, Omaha, Columbus, and Hastings, are now on the way to add casinos. 6 additional racetracks have been proposed. Their locations are Gering, Bellevue, Kimball, North Platte, Norfolk, and York.
