Last Three Dolphins Leave Mirage Las Vegas
According to a recent press release, the last three dolphins (Huf-N-Puf, Coco, and Lady Ace) have left The Mirage casino resort. Now they are on the way to Coral World Ocean Park’s Sea Sanctuary at Water Bay, Virgin Islands.
The trio is Atlantic bottlenoses, all female. One of them, Lady Ace, was born at The Mirage in summer of 2019. She was named after the Las Vegas Aces, the winners of that year’s WNBA Championship.
Joe Lupo, Mirage president, noted that they had found an excellent home for their dolphins with Coral World and its innovative Sea Sanctuary. David Blasko, Executive Director of Animal Care at The Mirage, commented on the event, calling Coral World’s Sea Sanctuary “an exceptional home for their dolphins”.
In February, another three mammals — Osborne, Sofi and Karli — were returned to their original place of living. SeaWorld San Diego had loaned the animals to the casino.
The trio will accompany seven dolphins that already live in the Sea Sanctuary of St. Thomas. This new home for the casino ex-inhabitants offers two acres of swimming space full of fish and invertebrates. According to the press release, this will “provide enrichment and stimulation for the dolphins”. As Lupo stated, the dolphins would continue to receive the quality professional care they had at The Mirage.
The permanent closure of Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat was announced in November last year. However, the shuttered habitat still housed bottlenoses even after the Mirage had been sold to the Seminole Tribe of Florida in December. The deal brought MGM Resorts International $1.075 billion. Now the casino is under transformation into the first Hard Rock resort on the Strip. The project includes the addition of a 660 foot tall guitar-shaped hotel tower, which will replace the Volcano.
