Three contenders for gambling license selected in Chicago
Who will get the Chicago gaming license? The authorities of Chicago have announced that they have compiled a short list of applicants for the development of gambling industry in the city. The list includes the three largest corporations – Bally’s, Hard Rock and Rush Street. Each of them has an equal chance of obtaining a license to conduct gambling activities.
The decision to develop the gambling industry in Chicago was made 30 years ago. However, the authorities were in no hurry to amend the current legislation and issue permits to operators. Due to bureaucratic delays, the collection of applications from candidates for obtaining a gambling license began only in 2021.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot commented on the current situation: “We have spent countless hours analyzing proposals for Chicago’s casino license”. She said that three finalists “best fit the core goals we want to achieve for the City’s first integrated casino-resort”.
Also, Mayor Lightfoot said: “Each proposal offers economic, employment, and equity-focused opportunities for Chicago, while simultaneously enhancing the City’s cultural, entertainment and architectural scenes with world-class amenities and design.”
Each company will take part in the public meeting. On it, its representatives will answer questions from the administration and citizens. This will eventually allow choosing one company that will receive a license to conduct gambling business and start implementing the planned state project.
Public meetings will take place from April 5-7 between 6 and 8 pm. As promised, local channels will broadcast them so that all Chicago residents can evaluate the proposals of applicants and express their opinion on the city software website.
