Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino Opens Its Doors After Blizzard
The extreme weather conditions caused a six-day hiatus of Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in Buffalo, NY, but now the facility is operational again as at 10:00 on Thursday it opened to the public.
Table games resumed at midday, while the parlay replay draw scheduled for earlier this week was held at 17:00.
Note that at 13:00 on Friday (December 23) the Seneca Gaming Corporation facility suspended its operations and all the guests and staff had to vacate the premises. Some visitors thought of the 24/7 casino as a temporary shelter, but the severe snowing made this option impossible.
Another gambling property of Seneca Gaming Corporation, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino located in Niagara Falls, had to close its doors on Christmas Eve as well. The casino reopened only after it became clear that the weather conditions improved and all staff members were able to arrive to work safely.
As for Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino located in Salamanca, it remained operational during the snowstorm, however, some of its bars and dining establishments shut down until the weather conditions would become safe again.
As a reminder, this year’s August 18 was the 20th anniversary of the Seneca Nation of Indians’ gaming compact with New York. According to this contract, the tribe is allowed to run Class III casinos in the Empire State, and as the agreement will expire soon, the Nation is hopeful for a new one.
However, it is likely to be challenging as there was a years-long conflict between the tribe and the state, which was just recently resolved. In summer Matthew Pagels, President of the Nation, noted that the tribe was hopeful to agree to a new and fair gaming compact, adding that the gaming sector in New York had changed drastically over the last 20 years since the Nation received exclusive rights, and the newly added casinos and racinos in the state had affected the Nation’s business.
In other news, Konami’s Synkros casino management system will appear in Rivers Casino Portsmouth, which opens soon.
