Michigan Governor Rejects the Gambling Resort Project
Gretchen Whitmer has turned down the local Indian tribe’s appeal to construct a gambling resort. The Great Lake State’s governor had asked the US Department of Interior to expand the decision’s deadline. She couldn’t get it. Whitmer explained that the DOI made things complicated for her and that she lacked essential details to make a well-thought-through resolution.
The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians tribe has been developing a project for 14 years. The DOI of the USA said yes to the resort’s construction on December 16, 2020. They stated that the gambling venue would suit the tribe’s interests. However, the approval of the governor was mandatory.
The leader of the tribe gave his comments. Larry Romanelli suggested that Whitmer was given the wrong information due to confusion. This confusion appeared because of a request sent by the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians.
This tribe expressed its desire to open a gambling venue close to the Little River Band Ottawa Indians’ proposed location. Romanelli continued by adding that he was downhearted. Still, he respected the governor’s right to make such choices.
