Massachusetts Reports GGR of $159.9m in May
The latest monthly revenue report presented by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission shows that gross gaming revenue of the state’s casinos and sports betting operators reached $159.9 million in May. This is 0.25% lower than April’s total GGR of $160 million.
Combined revenue of Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino was $99 million in May. This is one million less than it was in April. Encore Boston Harbor is the leader in all categories. It reported $62.5 million of monthly GGR. The state received $15.6 million in taxes, which is 56.3% of all casino gaming taxes in May.
The figures reported by MGM and Plainridge were $23.3 million and $12.8 million respectively. The amount of taxes reached $5.8 million for MGM Springfield and $6.2 million for Plainridge Park Casino.
The overall amount of taxes collected from casino gaming in May was $27.7 million. The retail sports betting at the casinos brought $238,230 in taxes. The total amount of taxes generated by the casino segment was almost $28 million. This means that the state has already collected over $1.431 billion in taxes from casinos alone since the industry launched.
As for Massachusetts’ retail and mobile sports betting, the total taxable sports wagering revenue generated in May was $60.9 million with an increase of 3.3% month-on-month. It should be noted that Fanatics and Betr entered the legal market only in May. Fanatics’ beta product has been live in Massachusetts for the final week of the month. The platform reported $123,108 in handle. Betr joined the list of legal online sportsbooks on May 8. Its monthly handle reached $592,965.
