Louisiana Gambling Revenue in June Down Nearly 10% Year-over-Year
A monthly report from The Louisiana Gaming Control Board revealed that year-on-year revenue for 2022 in June is down 9.7% from 2021, for a cash value of $29.9 million. The report included data on 13 river casinos, Harrah’s land-based casino, and four racinos.
Monthly figures also declined, with listed gambling facilities generating $276.7 million in May, up 4.2% from June. The only exception was Harrah’s New Orleans Casino, which generated $300,000 more in June than in May, up 1.2%.
Racinos showed the largest deterioration in revenue figures. If in May the revenue was $29.8 million, then in June it was already $27.1 million, which is 8.3% less.
Louisiana’s 13 riverside casinos also showed a decline in June compared to May: $152 million versus $157 million, respectively, a 3.2% difference. However, total revenue for fiscal years 21-22 at the end of June exceeded the figures for the same fiscal period 20-21 by 12%. In parallel, the revenue of Harrah’s New Orleans Casino and racinos also increased (7 and 3 percent).
The overall decline in figures in the state’s gambling industry in June includes serious losses in the income of the sports betting sector. Thus, the May income from betting exceeded the June one by 22.6%, and in general, a gradual decrease in revenue has been observed for the fifth month in a row.
