Full House Resorts to Open New Haven Casino and Resort at New Location
According to an announcement made by Full House Resorts on Wednesday, the proposed New Haven Casino and Resort will have a new location. The operator is going to develop the property next to the I-469 and U.S. 30 interchange west of Doyle Road.
The casino was initially planned to be built at the corner of Harper and Doyle Roads near I-469 and U.S. 24. However, the feedback from neighboring homeowners and city officials made the company change its mind and move the future property elsewhere.
Spokesperson for Full House Resorts Zack Sand noted that the company was dedicated to being a good neighbor in the communities it operated in, and they had listened carefully to the concerns of residents near their initial site and secured a more suitable location that meets the community’s comprehensive development plan. Sand added that the new site provided an ideal location for the New Haven Casino and Resort that respects the interest of all stakeholders.
The original location was 65.5 acres, but the new site offers 90 acres, providing substantial buffering from any other properties nearby. According to Sand, such an area creates opportunities for more development in future. However, the project is still expected to cost around $500 million.
The new site is also located near New Haven’s another major development: Fields of Grace, the 140,000-square-foot sports complex. Together, these properties are expected to have a significant economic impact on the city.
Steve McMichael, New Haven Mayor, made a comment in May 2024, three months before news of the possible casino first surfaced. He stated that the masterplan with a multi-sport fieldhouse and new much-needed residential opportunities was needed to maximize the city’s economic opportunities with an anticipated $50 million economic impact.
