Bally’s Wants to Bring Casino to the Bronx, NY
The New York Post reported that Bally’s has discussions with the Trump Organization (a conglomerate controlled by the former President) as the regional casino operator wants to build a gaming facility near the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point. Now the small amount of the acreage under question belongs to both the city of New York and the Trump Organization.
The sides are said to be talking about 17 of the 300 acres, but Bally’s would likely only need 10. Following the information from unidentified sources familiar with the matter, the Post reported about an opportunity to create over 15,000 construction jobs and more than 3,500 permanent, high-paying union gigs with salaries starting at $70,000, plus benefits and retirement.
Rumors regarding the desire of Bally’s to bring a casino hotel to NY continue for at least two years. Up to date, Bally’s doesn’t operate a New York gaming property but holds a sports betting license in the Empire state.
The field of casino bidding in big cities is a familiar thing for the operator. Bally’s was successful in its pursuit to bring a $1.7bn casino hotel to Chicago.
The Trump Organization holds an array of business interests and is currently run by the former President’s two sons — Eric and Donald, Jr. The company’s main interest lies in the field of high-end golf courses, commercial real estate, and luxury hotels, including a 50% interest in an eponymous venue on the Las Vegas Strip.
As for the past and now of Ferry Point, it is worth noting that the location used to be a garbage dump, but now there is a 195-acre, 18-hole course designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
The Post sees the possibility of a total acquisition of the Ferry Point land by Bally’s in the future if the operator wins a casino license in New York.
In other news, online casinos may become legal in Illinois.
