AGA CEO Expects Asia-Pacific Gaming Industry to Mirror US Success
Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia) Special Edition: Singapore is now in full swing. The American Gaming Association CEO Bill Miller was the one who started the event. In his speech, Miller expressed optimism for the global gaming industry. His expectations are that Asian markets will follow in the US footsteps.
Miller noted that there were plenty of reasons for them to be optimistic about the future. He added that if the comeback in Asia looked something like what the comeback in the US had been, they would be all in for a very exciting period of time.
According to AGA’s data, total commercial gaming revenue in the USA reached an all-time high of $60.4 billion in 2022. That was 38.5% higher than in 2019 (pre-pandemic), and the trend seems to continue in 2023 with a quarterly revenue record of $16.6 billion. Meanwhile, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp expects this year’s revenue to surpass the numbers of 2019, and gross revenue of Macau gaming market has already surpassed the overall GGR figure in 2022 after only 4 months.
The three-day industry expo show is being held at Marina Bay Sands with AGA being a co-organizer. The event brought together 100 suppliers from 30 countries and regions worldwide.
Another topic for the discussion was the issue of illegal gambling and its impact on the regulated market. Miller called the cooperation between regulators and law enforcement agencies the only successful way to deal with the problem. The CEO said that illegal gambling topped their list of responsibilities in the United States. He urged the audience to make a global commitment. He explained that illegal gambling won’t stop at one country’s borders, calling it a shared threat. Miller also warned that gaming markets in Asia face similar issues with tax revenue as in the USA, where unregulated gambling attracts nearly $511 billion in turnover each year.
